Still not ready to have surgery, I put it off until I could no longer stand the pain.

My name is Barbara Seay. I have been a nurse for 39 years. I have seen everything, including knee surgery. After many years of walking up and down the hallways, the wear & tear began to affect my knees. I started to experience knee pain; more in the right than the left knee. After seeing some “not-so-good knee surgery” I was hesitant about surgery. However, the pain got worse. It was difficult to walk and work my 12-hour shift.

I went to see a friend who is a rehab doctor. X-rays were done & the results were that I needed to have knee surgery; not what I wanted to hear. Still not ready to have surgery, I put it off until I could no longer stand the pain. After praying and realizing that it was not going away, I made an appointment to see Dr. Leone who was highly recommended. The receptionist, the Nurse Barbara, his PA Susan, and the X-Ray team were all very professional and kind.

Then I met Dr. Leone with his winning smile and gentle handshake. I knew I had made the right decision. He explained everything to me and showed me the X-ray, explaining that I needed surgery, but it was my call.

On Feb 8, 2010 I had surgery—total right knee replacement. On the day of surgery in the holding area, Dr. Leone spoke with my son and my sister to explain the procedure. The surgery was successful!

On Feb 11, 2010, I was discharged to a rehab center for 10 days. Post-op checkup was good. During outpatient rehab, when asked who my surgeon was, I told them, and they all said the same thing: “You will do well, he’s the best.”

After 10 weeks, I returned to work able to continue my 12- hour shift with no limitations. I’m only sorry I waited so long for the surgery.

THANK YOU Dr. Leone!!
