I would like to congratulate the Holy Cross Hospital orthopedic nursing staff for its stellar 4W Orthopedics HCAHPS Composites Spotlight Report, a survey which chronicled patient feedback on topics including pain management, responsiveness of staff, care transitions, communication with nurses and more. Conducted by NCR PICKER, a division of National Research Corporation, the survey results were based on data collected from April 1 to Dec. 31, 2012. The staff at Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida received very high marks, equal to or greater than the national average.
The Holy Cross Hospital orthopedic floor truly is award winning and patients as well as their families feel compassion as they receive the best care. Staffed by remarkable men and women who are devoted to their work, the orthopedic team includes nurses, therapists, case managers, medical secretaries, folks from dietary who deliver custom meals, cleaning personnel and other support staff. Patients and family members feel benefit from this cohesive team approach.
When I describe to my patients what to expect after surgery, I often tell them that our hospital and orthopedic floor are exceptional, and that they will feel that from the moment they walk through the doors, that people are nice, they smile and are helpful. Because of the highly experienced orthopedics team, patients and their families feel a confidence and calmness which renders a better experience and a quicker recovery. After being discharged, patients routinely tell me how impressed they were and how many will write special letters of appreciation.
For more than 20 years, I have had the privilege to practice at top-ranked Holy Cross Hospital where our goal at the Leone Center for Orthopedic Care is to achieve consistently superb clinical results for our patients. As an orthopedic surgeon, I take pride in solving complex hip and knee problems, including total hip replacement, total and partial knee replacement and knee arthroscopy using the latest proven surgical techniques. Although I am the “captain of the ship” when managing my patients’ problems, I know that my job is made easier and more satisfying because I work with so many fantastic and caring people.
Combining leading-edge technology with good old fashioned care in a warm and welcoming environment helps to put our patients at ease and make the entire experience as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Compassionate, thorough post-operative care is critical for an optimal recovery, from pain management through rehabilitation.
In my experience, I have found that patients who go into surgery with a better understanding of what will happen and what to expect experience less anxiety. Knowing that there is a skilled and dedicated orthopedic staff ready to assist them is so important to me and to my patients. The care these men and women provide helps my patients achieve the best and fastest result, and eventually to return to a full and active lifestyle.
